Muthoni Drummer Queen - Moonsoon EP

Muthoni Drummer Queen's latest EP, Moonsoon, explores the facets of love in a relatable way. Channeling all stages of a relationship, Muthoni Drummer Queen's 3-track offering tells a story about a couple who goes through the highs and lows of their union. Ultimately, the two's relationship becomes stronger than ever as they choose to love each other through it all. Sonically, Moonsoon blends tropical tones of Afrobeat and soothing yet warm Kenyan Pop elements. The album's concept and title are inspired by East African music and highlight how this standout rhythm ushers genres across the globe.

"I really wanted a unique name that speaks to my East African identity," Muthoni Drummer Queen shares. "Moonsoon tells a bigger story of the rise of African music globally and embodies the wavy, flowy, rhythmic nature of the music on the EP itself."

"Consistency" summarizes how self-comparison and self-sabotage can negatively affect a relationship. "Pomoni," on the other hand, finds Muthoni Drummer Queen asking a lover to be more open with expressing their feelings. "Bure" brings all these sentiments together with a strong reassurance for their better half.

"You're always on my mind/Always all the time," Muthoni Drummer Queen expresses. "You’re my favorite song/Sing you all day long."

For the production, Muthoni Drummer Queen called on Kenyian beat masterminds So Fresh, Wuod Omollo, and Dillie. Wood Omollo and Ywaya Tajiri supported the project's outstanding songwriting. Shem Obara, Mutua Matheka, and Musa Omusi, among many others, also helped bring Moonsoon to life.
